I took Monday and Tuesday off to recover from the 14-hour plane journey ✈
I returned on Wednesday to a full inbox and 400-odd Slack messages to get through. ✉
I went to a fantastic meeting on the digital guide discovery work (fantastic because it was concise and informative) and an exciting meeting on Knowledge, Learning and Collections product requests work (exciting because it’s a big piece of work I’m keen to get stuck into).
Another couple of meetings included a rundown of LFF research, conducted by an amazing colleague of mine, and a demonstration of a new IMAX access booking process. The latter was very important to me, I enjoy working on accessibility and inclusivity content so to see this being highlighted across the organisation is really encouraging.
Overall this week, I was just happy to be back, excited to get to work and trying to remember what I was doing before I left.
I did forget my laptop on Wednesday (first-day-back-brain) so had to use the nest of computers in Stephen Street, which was fine. It did highlight some of the lack of space we have in Stephen Street sometimes. Quite a few colleagues came over throughout the morning looking to use a computer for one reason or another and found that they’d all been booked, even though some of the desks weren’t occupied until later in the day.
My phone keeps disconnecting from the bfi_staff wifi - not the end of the world but annoying nonetheless.
I got to watch Killers of the Flower Moon at IMAX (thank you staff ticket allowance), which was intense, to say the least. I thought it was true enough to the book, which is usually quite important to me. Also finally got to see Talk to Me, one of the best, most innovative horrors I’ve seen in a long time.
I’m listening to a lot of K-pop, for obvious reasons. And the Cocteau Twins, for less obvious reasons.
My girlfriend’s never seen Malcolm in the Middle, so I’m watching that with her at the moment and it’s just reminding me of how groundbreaking it was. I used to watch it as a kid and just laugh but watching it with an adult brain makes you really appreciate the detail and complexity of the characters and the storylines. Also made me realise how much I love Bryan Cranston. This clip in particular always makes me smile.
