This week I took the plunge and started some deep content review work on fund guidelines. I had a few meetings in the previous week with various colleagues and it was agreed that I should start looking at the BFI NETWORK Short Film Fund guidelines.
I started with the eligibility criteria as this seemed quite complicated and I wanted to wrap my brain around it. I did a lot of reading (and re-reading), conducted a mini workshop task with myself and did some redrafting. A whole bunch of new questions came to the forefront, but this is good and necessary. This is why I’m starting the work on this now before the fund goes live early next year.

Once I figured out the main points, I turned to the trusted wall+Post-it method.

After this task, I transferred the paper versions to old faithful, Miro.

I also got to the point where I was able to share an incredibly early draft of this sub-section with the fund team, which has so far yielded positive feedback.
Further work on funds saw me creating some very quick and rough drafts of new layouts for the fund category pages, highlighting which ones are open and which are closed. Hoping to get this to departments for sign-off soon.
I had several worthwhile and important meetings this week, including one with the founder and creative director of TAPE Community Music and Film, a brilliant charity that helps BFI fund applicants with access needs.
This meeting actually led to me being invited to another meeting in December with BFI fund coordinators, which I have no doubt will be invaluable.
Also got to go back to Ugly Dumpling for lunch with some colleagues which is always good.
I have to remind myself that the fund guidelines work isn’t necessarily part of my department’s next quarter's priorities, so there may be some moments when there are conflicts in time and resources.
I do worry that I won’t be able to do enough as a sole content designer in a digital team. Sometimes I think that everything I’ve achieved up to this point was because I was being propped up by a wider group of content designers, who did know what they were doing. Sounds like imposter syndrome, doesn’t it?
